What makes Devi Yoga's teaching style different?
An emphasis on safely getting in and out of postures
Injuries are most likely to occur during the
transitions between postures and Devi Yoga
teaches students the safest way to enter and exit
any asana (posture). Listening to, moving with,
and directing the breath are central to the practice.
Allowing you space
Teachers at Devi Yoga allow students comfortable
space to experience yoga how it serves them best.
Before putting our hands on students to make
adjustments, we try to use language to direct
the students into the most healthy form of the pose.
Every student needs something different and there
is a space in yoga for each individual.
There is never an assumption about what you are
able to do or unable to do--often students surprise
themselves with their own body's ability!
Savasana
During the relaxation period at the end of class the teacher guides students
with imagery and relaxation techniques so the body and mind have a steady
place to focus. The final minutes of a yoga session are often the most
important for long lasting health. Deep relaxation is proven to improve
memory, improve focus, and help tame emotions.
Passing on the benefits of yoga
During a session, you will often hear the teacher share with you the benefits of
a posture or movement. This helps the student's knowledge to increase
through awareness of the overall benefits. Teachers also share the deeper
yogic philosophies that help individuals lead a blissful life. Yoga helps in
personal development like getting through fears and limitations beginning with
breaking physical barriers. To learn more about how this can change your own
life--contact Devi Yoga! Or look at the Benefits of Yoga page.
Body awareness
In sports, while walking, and while doing many activities at once, we need body
awareness. This is the sensitivity to understand our body's needs that goes
beyond the feeling of hunger or pain. True body awareness is noticing
physical sensations, emotions about to surface, and proprioception, the ability
to sense all parts of the body in space using the inner eye. Devi Yoga
teachers help students overcome trouble with balance and coordination by
teaching them yogic tools to increase body awareness.
Teaching Style: Hatha Yoga
Yoga is the liberation of the fluctuations of the mind.
